報告要旨:
Weoften associate democratic failure with highly visible violations of democraticnorms including military coups, imprisonment or intimidation of the opposition, and major electoral fraud. This lecture examines a different form of potentialdemocratic erosion, in which democratically-elected leaders employ legal buttechnocratic means to entrench their power. In Hungary's 2010 nationalparliamentary elections the Fidesz-Hungarian Civic Alliance party captured overtwo-thirds of the parliamentary seats, giving it super-majority power. Since2010 Fidesz has used its authority to centralize power in controversial ways. What has Fidesz done and in what ways Is it endangering democracy?
